Business Continuity

How can you protect against loss of data through corruption, accidental deletion, hardware failure or even a site disaster? Here are some methods that we offer.

Volume Shadow Copy
Volume Shadow Copy
The simplest way to protect against data loss on Windows Server is to enable Volume Shadow Copy on the disk drive. To enable, it is merely a flick of a switch. This feature is built in to Windows Server. So it is free.
Backup
Backup
The most basic and common way to protect against hard disk failure is to have a backup. Nowadays, backup to another disk is popular, reliable and easy. When setting up a backup solution, consider setting up data archival as well.
RAID
RAID
By far, the most common component to fail on a server is the hard drive. To mitigate this, get your server with RAID configured. With RAID, there will be 2 or more hard drives configured in a stripe set to appear like it is one big storage to the server. Redundancy is built into the RAID stripe set to allow for one or more drive to fail without any data loss.
Unterrupted Power Supply (UPS)
Unterrupted Power Supply (UPS)
A common source of data corruption is power failure. To avoid such incidents from happening, have an Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS). Not only does your server continue running when the power goes out, it will also shutdown the server gracefully when the battery is almost flat.
Hyper-V Replica
Hyper-V Replica
In a Hyper-V setup with 2 physical servers, you can dynamically replicate the image of a virtual server to a backup host server. So even if your production server crashes, the backup host server can start the virtual server. Downtime to the end users will only be just mere minutes.
DFS Replica
DFS Replica
With DFS replication, the contents of a folder can be mirrored to another server in the same site or at another site. Changes to either site can be synchronized. So even when one site is down, your data is still safe at another site.
